Mila’s Meals: The Beginning & The Basics wins Next Generation Indie Book Award

I am delighted and honoured to announce that my book, ‘Mila’s Meals: The Beginning & The Basics’, has been placed as a Finalist in the HEALTH/WELLNESS (NON-FICTION) Category of the international 2017 Next Generation Indie Book Awards (NGIBA).

The Next Generation Indie Book Awards (based in America) is the largest not-for-profit book awards program for independent publishers and self-published authors. This award is listed in the top ten awards for independently published books and is nicknamed the “Sundance” of indie book award contests.

(The term ‘indie’ traditionally refers to independent art – music, film, literature or anything that fits under the broad banner of culture – created outside of the mainstream and without corporate financing.)

The awards are judged by leaders of the indie book publishing industry, including many coming from long careers with major publishing houses, to identify books that deserve to reach a wide audience.

The winners and finalists will be honoured at the end of May in New York during BookExpo America.

As much as I would love to be there (and to see my book displayed at BookExpo America), I will be on an aeroplane back from the Gourmand Awards in China and counting the seconds until I can give Mila the biggest hug she has ever received!

Be sure to follow Mila’s Meals on Facebook to hear all the news from The Gourmand Awards from the 26 – 30 May 2017.

‘Mila’s Meals: The Beginning & The Basics’ is available internationally from (among others):

In its eleventh year of operation, the Next Generation Indie Book Awards was established to recognize and honor the most exceptional independently published books in over 70 different categories, for the year, and is presented by Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group (www.IBPPG.com) in cooperation with Marilyn Allen of Allen O’Shea Literary Agency.

The aim of Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group is to promote professional standards in independent book publishing (also known as “indie” book publishing), and provide support and recognition for the independent book publishing profession.[/vc_column_text]

  1. Dear Catherine,

I trust you are well. What an amazing site! I love it…so easy to navigate.

I am excited to know there is a graduate from Institute of Integrative Nutrition. The reason for this email is to enquire about the course from a fellow South African. I’m really interested to pursue this course but need to prepare myself. I am employed in the finance field but I don’t enjoy it as much.

Somehow, I always knew I made the wrong career choice. Although I had developed interest in nutrition, wellness, functional medicine, etc the option of studying naturopathy or dietetics full time is not possible due to family commitments & finances. I find myself in a high pressured environment and coping with stress is such a nightmare.

    Just quick questions:
    1. How much data on average would I need to access the IIN library & tune in to webinars, events, etc? Which service provider was helpful for you in providing a reasonable data package. I find data very expensive esp. Vodacom.
    2. How much money should I set aside to buy prescribed books?
    3. What other incidental costs should I budget for?
    4. Once qualified, did you manage to use the skills you acquired at IIN to sustain your livelihood?

Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Kind regards
