Why the real cheese? Well, I am not a fan of that highly processed vegan cheese (#fakefood) and when it comes to food treats – cheese is a treat for Mila. And I would rather she had this as a treat than sugar-laden sweets 😬 Also – the high fat and protein of the cheese content means that the sugar she will have on Halloween won’t hit her system so hard.⁠

Yes, every Halloween she gets to choose 5 trick or treat sweets to keep and eat. The others she exchanges for a gift I go buy with her – a treat like a new sticker book or doll.⁠

That recipe uses naartjie juice, but I made this Halloween-inspired blood-red jelly by substituting the naartjie juice with @localvillagefoods African Hibiscus Tea (available from @faithfultonature). ⁠⠀

Not only is the colour gorgeous, but the tea has excellent medicinal properties too. It is:⁠⠀
• High in antioxidants and immune boosting phytochemicals, bioflavonoids, polyphenols, vitamin C, anthocyanins⁠⠀
• Kills pathogens and protects against infections such as colds and flu, chest congestion, and sore throats⁠⠀
• Balances blood pressure and blood sugar⁠⠀
• Relieves constipation⁠⠀
